Belief that alcohol ads tell the truth is one of the most important variables. If teenagers believe so, they may rely on those ads to define their idea of “normal drinking habits”, which also brings us to the importance of parental monitoring and level of discussion10.

Brand allegiance, as defined by the question “do you have a favorite alcoholic beverage brand?”, has been shown to have strong association with beer drinking in the previous 30 days on our sample. Therefore, the industry’s statement that they are only intending to strengthen their brand names not only is not enough for the advertising to be acquitted but is also one of the reasons advertising should be either banned or more strictly regulated.

I just wanted to say that I can completely relate to the young woman who wrote that letter. I also have the same feelings, problems, and emptiness in my life.

I'm a man, but the fantasies to escape reality, late night wine (and Ambien, in my case), sleeping late, etc are all very familiar to me.

Thanks for your response to the letter. It has helped more than just the original writer.

Reading the letter from this woman so reminded me of myself back when. I didn't drink while pregnant or nursing...I was able to stop...but once the children got older I was drinking way too much. Today I'm sober...over six years and work the AA program consistantly. I love my new way of life. All I can suggest to 'alone and desperate' is to find AA and someone to talk to in the fellowship. She will find other woman who have been there and done that. I too dealt with depression but with physician's care and AA today I am med free and happy. And I've learned to handle relationships...
